Duchess China was founded in 1888 as "Dresden Porcelain Company" in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England and is one of the few true remaining British Manufacturers of fine bone china tableware, teaware and giftware. That's over 130 years of experience in producing beautiful, quality products, all in-house. In 1905 the original company was taken over by the Blyth Porcelain Company and continued producing china under the backstamp of Diamond China by Blyth. In 1935 the porcelain company was taken over by A.T. Finney and Sons who also owned Blue Bell Pottery. The Finneys produced fine bone china under the Duchess backstamp, the name we have known over the last 85 years. In 1989 A.T. Finneys was sold to a local earthenware manufacturer, the John Tams Group, which would further enhance the UK and export markets for the strong Duchess China brand. Unfortunately, with the rise of cheap imports, the Tams Group ceased trading and in 1999 Grimwades Ltd, who also owned the Royal Winton brand, purchased the Duchess factory and continued the history of producing fine bone china and tableware.
